Walking and Weight Loss Go Hand in Hand

Ask your doctor what one of the best exercises is for losing weight and you will most likely be told that it is walking. Walking always has and will forever be one of the best things that you can do for your body. You want to make sure that you are getting in that workout, but walking and weight loss aren't always easy to do.
For starters, not everyone lives in a neighborhood that they feel safe freely walking around and not everyone lives near a track or a park that they can walk through. Even for those that do have great outdoor walking options, the weather is not always on the side of the person who needs to exercise. It could be snowing or raining and that would delay your plans to workout. You might even have small children that you are unable to take with you.
Luckily for you and many other people who want to walk to lose weight, the elliptical trainer is available. Maybe you are a member of a gym and you have never used it before or maybe you are looking for a new machine to buy. Either way, you want to give the elliptical trainer a shot in order to see its true benefits. One of the first things that you will notice is that it is very easy to use. You get the stride length and the resistance that you would get by walking outside to lose weight, without having to actually walk around in the sun with the bugs and the heat or cold.
Something that you want to keep in mind though is that even though you may start out on a lower resistance, you want to make sure that you are turning up that resistance level a little every so often. As a general rule of thumb, if you do not feel the burn of a workout in the first ten minutes, you are not at the right resistance setting. As you get into shape, you will not find the elliptical to be as challenging unless you change the resistance level.
Even though the elliptical trainer is a wonderful tool to be used for your walking and weight loss goals, it is important to make sure that it is not the only tool used. It is a great cardio machine but you want to make sure that you are lifting a little weight as well. It is also important to make sure that you are eating healthy and that you are drinking enough water. In addition, since a little fresh air is good for you, when you do have the chance, you will want to set the elliptical trainer aside for the day and go for a brisk walk outside. Walking and weight loss go hand in hand!o.. enjoy! :)
